NESTING

#Day18

#ArtoonsinnPoetryParlour #NaPoWriMo 2022

Prompt # "I have asked the sparrows to be quiet today. In respect for the dead, to fidget less and sit, where I ask them to sit."

Twigs and sticks, straw and hay

Were collected painstakingly all morning and by the end of the day

A basket of comfort padded with leaves was readied for their nestlings to chirp and play

A sense of pride bloomed in the tiny hearts of the feathered couple a striking Blue Jay

They twittered to each other and with hope they would pray

Little did they know a storm was brewing out of nowhere

The tree swayed and fell with a crash to their dismay

Heartbroken at the sight, they could only screech loudly, their lament to display!

Flocks of birds mourned the torment

Pleading for their crushed chicks and

The nests which lay as kindling and their hearts a fragment…

Fury had ravaged the canaries and hawks

Leaving behind a trail of cadavers of sparrows, nightjars and larks…
