MYRIAD MUSES

Pages infused with a scent of a bouquet of lavender My serene thoughts tumble into one another as they swiftly gather Giving it tender dimension, depth and sound,I write about the quiet breeze that blows Or the burgeoning black mass of cloud that rolls About raindrops tapping a rhythmic beat on my window Or the trees outside blanketed with frost and snow Spilling sun-drenched dreams on it or the winter's chill About snow capped peaks or the distant green hills Messy handwriting smudged by splotches of tears  Writing is cathartic when I pen down my fears Blank pages waiting to be filled with scribbles, doodles or colors Stories and tales yet to be told  Lyrics of songs, dancing as they unfold Shuffling between magic and reality Sad farewells steep in melancholy Long lost shorelines call with the softest whispers Pressed between the pages are fragile, withered wildflowers Water lily ponds soaked in the moonlight and owls hooting in the silent night  Crimson sunsets ...

CROSSROADS

Standing at the crossroads I look to my left and then to my right It's here where the magic happens and my wand sparkles bright It's a bend in the road in the middle of a thicket Surrounded by tall trees and rolling fog which dims the gloaming and indigo twilight  Under the twinkling velvet sky I watch and wait To collect moonbeams in a jar and stardust on a golden plate Path beyond the crossroads show me the bigger picture Patience is the key for dilemma at this juncture There ain't no road signs nor any map I have to chart my own course and work through these gaps It's a one way street, there's no rewind on the track The road to my past is a closed chapter there's no looking back Untrodden paths may hold a fortune great  My luck might turn for the better, go forth I must with a confident gait Destination is a reward for the arduous journey Crossroads are only a pit stop to shed my worry Rejuvenating after spell of introspection  I'm back on my feet with...

VERSES IN YOUR EYES

Your eyes speak volumes and their songs are a divine serenade  The silences between us are a sweet echo of things unspoken and unsaid Upon the sun-warmed beach we had built sandcastles, courtyards, turrets and towers Snapshots are in frames as we picked seashells or in the sand, carved our names with flowers  Swathed in silks my hair had shimmered like diaphanous pixie wings under the autumn moon Your eyes radiant like a chatoyant jewels had glittered with hues of the ocean and water lilies in bloom Summer turned to fall and frigid winter There arrived one fine day, your much awaited letter: Saying, let me be your wishing star and a safe harbor Herein I will moor my ship dropping my anchor If my world was a palette of paint, you are the blue of my sky  The red of my hopes, the gold of my sunshine and green of my joy The stars dazzled and danced beside the moon You were coming to make me your bride very soon The sky had blushed with streaks of coral and peach color Rouge...

STARDUST IN MY EYES

In a garden full of flitting butterflies and flickering fireflies  Lying down on picnic mats and dreaming of the summers gone by, Gazing at airplanes flying in the sky so high! My songs are all about the sun, stars and the moon shining bright Rainy days saw me splashing in puddles Winter, in warm quilts and snug fleece bundles A home lit by fireplaces and cozy light of candles Running through sweet, wet grass on a summer day Ice cubes tinkled in tall jugs of fruit punch and lemonade Daisies and dandelions were my wreath and crown Tucking every wildflower in my hair and playing until sundown Every grove, meadow and stream Lent me tender memories and many sweet dreams  Take me home to yesterday, a childhood studded with rhinestones and daintily woven macrame  When I was happy sailing paper boats in my wonderland, spangled with dewdrops and rime. I have stumbled into this world, my eyes sparkling with a stardust sheen As my palms clutched at a pearly moonbeam, I patiently lo...

KEEPER OF MY DREAMS

My daydreams pirouette like a ballerina on tiptoes Always holding the audience enthralled, in ecstasy with my pliés and all my moves I transform into an ice skater on the rink Swooping in rhythm on the glassine floor in a blink My eyes meet yours across the prom, stealthily Wishing that you would sweep me off my feet instantly Withered flowers of your name I preserve among the pages of my diary A decade old rose too, once scarlet, now crisp and a shade of muddy The tributes and letters unsent to you were poetic and lengthy I keep my secrets beneath my eyelids, coyly I tell my stories to the moon and the shooting stars To the butterflies and the breeze and all the flowers You and my unrealized chimera are like a candle flame making my heart sigh Incessant sparkle a pie in the sky! Some secrets are to be held close, not to flaunt It's stashed away in a hidden cache of a coded vault. ©️ Sangeetha Kamath

PASSING THROUGH

A hush descended under pale blue iris skies  As I, a cobblestoned footpath threaded through rosemary and myrtle aisles Silhouettes of pewter clouds sailed over While I wended through glen, glade and lea of clover Down the moors sinking into the caverns and coves I wandered like a lost lambkin weaving my way into a sheltered grove I'm home and hearth to caravans and trailers The weary homeless, nomads and the downtrodden tent dwellers I drank the last limpid pools of honeyed sunbeam Whilst skirting the moon-bathed lakes and rocks laced with lichen Traveling with the pilgrims over crests of hills The ocean echoes are a melancholia spraying me with salty mists I stretch through the dim lamplit streets of hamlets and towns The bright city lights which upon me severely frowns A frigid and clammed up breeze rustles a cypress lined boulevard  Humming the glories of warm golden days abandoned miles behind The sky hanging low cleanses me with her downpour Under a starry night I sparkle...

TOMORROW BRINGS...

I open the doors of my heart to unspoken words, uncomfortable silences Unresolved emotions on various tangled threads Careening to rock bottom when the night is freezing cold A mellow light shines through when the dawn is nearly gold When the heart hangs heavy and defeated I open the doors of my heart that tomorrow will bring a solution and problems will be depleted What secrets behold, what mystery is about to unfold? Tomorrow is not promised yet I with bated breath tread on this unknown road Curves and bends show me pathways new Trails and alleys to explore meandering through Tomorrow is a fiction, yet I want to write this story I open the doors of my heart to keep my dreams flickering by weaving some fantasy It's my rosy hued world where everything is hunky-dory An escape from this daily grind there isn't surely If tomorrow comes I will greet the marmalade sky The hallowed canvas with a masterpiece of colors so high Talk to the breeze and feel it in my hair Run through swe...

RAPUNZEL REVISITED

Blessed with beauty and tresses golden, sparkling with colours of fall Skin of porcelain, a dainty damsel she was Rapunzel fairest of them all Enchanting and charming everyone with her lilting voice and song She mesmerized everyone who came along Praised to the skies and pampered everywhere  Pride swelled her head she demanded more than her share Entitled and brash turned her demeanor  The townsfolk were saddened by her stinging words as were her father and mother  Weeping at this sad turn of events they lamented night and day Rapunzel had an icy heart, she smirked and turned away Strutting into a library, a book on the dark arts she did devour  Rapacious was her goal to attain everlasting youth and mighty magical power  An evil sorceress she became over time and with practice  Sweet natured Rapunzel had a rotten heart full of malice Turning men who defied her into ugly toads and pretty girls to stone She broke everyone’s heart, she wouldn't leave anyone al...

COVER ME IN SPARKLES

I had always wished that my eyes were the blue of the river Or the deep violet of the pretty flower Why weren't they a sparkling green colour  With gold specks glinting in the sunshine of summer Making me look intelligent and clever? No, it's not even sable or black like onyx gems  Piercing and stunning you with a glance Instead they were a brown… Not a honey, chestnut or hazel in which you could drown They wouldn't remind you of decadent chocolates or a garnet crown Of the rain drenched mud they were a mahogany  You couldn't find moonbeams dancing in them to an autumn symphony A shimmering crystal ball sure it ain't  But in them I hold a gift and many a talent Unusual they are, that I assure They can see through your soul and read the future. ©️ Sangeetha Kamath  Pic Courtesy:Image by Maria G. from Pixabay

AND THIS WAS MEANT TO BE

Love came knocking on my door Lost and wandering looking for stories galore Set in gold, a whisper of a dream embroidered on organza regally  Falling in love was sweet, feeling free and light finally  Cozy fireplaces were ours to reminisce the summer laughter; lilting Autumn in her carnival clothes quite stunning and breathtaking  With frozen hearts and stormy skies  War of words spewed that love was full of excuses and pretty little lies Flapping their wings furiously above me were a convoy of starlings and geese In search of warmer kingdoms to escape November freeze Timeless, no beginning, no end… Every day, every moment, every uphill road and every bend After walking miles in the arid deserts, I had a thousand reasons to go; a million to stay  The stars sizzle to a vapor at dawn, retreating and coy Giving way to marmalade fires, pieces of me are everywhere, I never went away  Rhythm of wisdom is to rise above the ego   To embrace the dim...

SELF CARE

Dewdrops on bluebells and butterflies on roses Soaking in the first rays of sunlight in healthy doses Mornings with a mug of freshly brewed coffee  And late afternoons with a book in hand and cups of chamomile tea With chocolate chip cookies and slices of cheesecake The little joys of life which in my kitchen I bake Stretching and dancing to feel alive Sometimes a Zumba, a jig, a salsa or jive Read and writing is my foremost go to Mysteries and intrigue to discover a hidden clue Moon drenched skies and starry nights Dinner and soothing music with a candlelight  Long walks and deep talks with pals and gals Wandering through the malls, nature trials or open air stalls Picnics and camping in the heart of nature Cozy moments are like these which I always treasure  Image by Tiny Tribes from Pixabay

SILVER LININGS

Life is too short and time is too precious  Stop thinking about calories and try out all the cookies and cakes delicious Taking that trip to the Bahamas, Maldives or Hawaii to soak in the sunshine warm and bright Or flying to Alaska to see the dancing, electric Northern Lights Reading those unfinished books or writing a dream story It's always been my desire to learn ballet, salsa and dance away to glory Time is too fast, no replay, no rewind I must capture every jewel of memory and pin it to my heart In the fury of a storm or in a rich hum golden In every floral parade of spring and midwinter frozen I must dazzle like a thousand suns and sparkle like a million moons burning a trailblazer  Before my wind tousled brunette hair turns ashen silver  Be awed by the full moon and gaze at the shimmering stars Live in the moment and bloom like bonny sunflowers  Believe in magic and surround myself with my favorite things Dance in the rain, play in the snow and look f...

SOUL CURRY

Food blossomed in my mother's rustic kitchen with its aroma and essence The chambers were enveloped with a mild, snug fragrance Plump, rose-tanned tomatoes swinging from redolent creepers Were handpicked for sipping soup around toasty fireplaces and homespun dinners Garnished with homegrown basil and rosemary Cozy autumns and chilling winters were soothed with this steaming soul curry Lentil stew and Minestrone were a class apart Bringing good cheer around the table warming our hearts Reminiscing the good times we had together With light hearted banter and full throated laughter  The vibrant reds and the glowing golds Were a rainbow on our violet skies and sunshine in a bowl Seasoned with pepper, paprika and cayenne With a spritz of tangy lemon, lime or even a sweet nectarine  About the secret, magic ingredient you never did reveal It was love that you sprinkled and stirred in, all our pain it healed Now, oceans across distanced from you Every minute I crave for that ma...

LONESOME TREK

You were my fairy grandmother Like you I will find no other In your arms I found happiness and bliss Why didn't I realize that was your last kiss? You set off on your own Before the sun rose to welcome the dawn When I woke up on that fateful morn Everyone said that you were gone What about the untold story, the incomplete one? Where everyone lived happily ever after under the sun… How will I sleep without your lullaby You went away without a proper goodbye! We had so much to live for, a chapter was closed too soon You're in the dimming daylight, rising twilight, the blossoming moon… When I search for answers in my phases of zenith and nadir I cling to your letters, bangles, memories; they're my only souvenir… Thin is the veil between two realms Is that how you visit me every night in my dreams? ©️ Sangeetha Kamath  Pic Courtesy:Image by 2344799 from Pixabay

PRACTICE THE PAUSE

Murky ponds of tangled threads and unsolved riddles In which I'm sailing…I'm sinking…I'm overthinking! Hobbling on a rough-hewn terrain I crave for solitude and a pit stop in the madding fast lane In the floating autumn leaves that glide and fall Through the wisping mists from the valleys that roll In the wafting spring and summer wind, in a mad rat race and endless grind A solace and sanctuary seeks my fevered mind  Cancelling the cacophony roaring and raving Succumbing to the depths of stillness within My lull and silence still have a voice  Slowing down to beat of my own drum is my priority and choice. ©️ Sangeetha Kamath  Image by Guren-The-Thirdeye from Pixabay

THORNS AND ROSES

A million dreams burn and shine like stars serenading the distant moon  As I listen to the haunting songs of larks and the nightingales that croon Swimming beneath the ocean and soaring above the clouds Dancing on a blanket of snow or building my home on a treetop But life is a broken winged bird that always trips and falls even when the red robins and cardinals coo and call A dim spark sets ablaze the fall colors in the night when dreams knock on my door wearing shimmery lights Life plays a tug of war, a toy with my heartstrings, yet the roses smudge bright and good luck they bring Closing my eyes and waving a silver wand Sizzling like a meteor and traveling like the shooting star in the blue beyond. ©️ Sangeetha Kamath
