SPARKS N' FLICKERS

#SoulCraftPoetry #OctoberPoetryContest #Light The hallowed glowing arc from a 'diya' impales the intense darkness Streaks of sunrays through the rain-kissed air splashes the sky in prismatic colours The moonshine is quite benevolent as I bare my heart out every night The velvety indigo of the twilight puts on a show of pulsing starlight  It's the flicker of hope still alive amidst bleak and dismal thoughts In the broken and shattered, through every crack and crevice It's the soft whispering of my mind and soul Asking me to rest, not quit...and try again when I feel fine... I climb the steep slope, walk ragged paths to reach the pinnacle When I reach the top someday the stars will shine down and the view will be spectacular! ©️ Sangeetha Kamath

THIEF OF MY HEART

Genre: Humour                THIEF OF MY HEART  The day dawned with rosy hues bright and bold The radiant bride was bedecked with sparkling diamonds and dazzling gold Oh Crikey! How will she manage this brocade finery? Tripping on the aisle making her big day a buffoonery… Getting a stage fright and cold feet she was about to beat a hasty retreat Gallant was her beau, sweeping her up in his arms, said all the same: "Thief of my heart, you had won me over when you stole my last name!" Mosey Down A Wynd

On a pebble strewn wynd fringed by homes rustic The cloudless cerulean sky belonged to a summer so fantastic! Toffee-brown homely walls ring of love true Balconies so dreamy, patina of moss green and ocean blue... Box sills of Bougainvillea and dainty fragrant petunia A hamlet of serenity n' solitude, it's my idyllic Utopia! ©️ Sangeetha Kamath

SNOW DOESN'T FALL

SNOW DOESN'T FALL   #Arttra6        Genre: Fantasy   Retelling of Snow White                            The thundering hoof beats retreated as the carriage clattered down the pebble strewn path through the forest.  Her eyes felt leaden and her head pounded like a million hammers. She wanted to lie down on the sodden earth and rest her head on the mulch. The events of the day came bearing down on her.  Her father, lying dead in a pool of blood! The assailant, lance in hand with his back to her in the dim lit courtroom… A loud wail that escaped her throat… A sharp blow to her head from behind that caught her unawares… Discarded in the woods… She knew that if she didn't keep walking, the wild beasts which inhabited the woods would tear her into shreds in no time. The dainty, pale girl, all of sixteen, tried to keep her eyes focused on the way ahead. Driving rains soaked her to the skin and the incessant needle-pricks of wind-sharpened raindrops assailed her

SHIMMER N' SHINE

ALS Spirit Of Asia Contest #118 Theme: Festival North winds flurry frigid frost, drifting and floating  All around me are crystalline snowflakes  We merrily go into the pine woods for our Christmas tree  Returning home to aroma of freshly baked log cakes As we snuggle into warm quilts and sip hot cocoa in front of the fireplace,  Munching on popcorns, marshmallows and cookies As the snow outside falls as soft as lace Christmas is coming, Christmas is here Please come home for the holidays my near and dear With carolling, warm soups, laughter, stockings over the fireplace Let's bite into gingerbread biscuits and raisin-rum cakes with glaze Stollens with candied peel and nuts Panettone with almonds and fruit, Marzipans with royal icing sugar; Oh what a treat, why does Christmas come only once a year? Fragrant pines adorned with baubles and trinkets,  Pathways of fairy lights lead to the star-spangled top Season of love amplifies shimmer and shine, a melodious song With winter c

SHANGRI-LA

SHANGRI-LA  On uncharted territory in a hot air balloon I traversed through the cyan skies Oh look! There are snow-white swans, migrating mallards and flocks of alabastarine geese! Honking and cackling, a medley of cacophony Sounds of nature and fauna were in perfect harmony Crisp air from the valleys, hillocks and dales  Fragrant pine and arboreal breeze makes me forget all worries and cares… A gust of wind takes my balloon a notch higher From land and countryside so much further The rivers look like sinuous glimmering ropes oh how at the sight I marvel! Quilted patches of verdure splattered with wildflowers bright blue, violet, magenta looking like gems and a crown jewel The rocky crests and crown of mountainside rise like tall citadels In the setting sun against a tangerine canvas they look like majestic sentinels! Daylight is dimming and twilight is rising as they welcome diamonds of stars twinkling! North Star is the first to pe

DOGGED DAYS

DOGGED DAYS The ladder of life battles gusty storms and shifting sands Wavering on buoyant tides and on undulating lands Through seasons sizzling and frigid winds baying Grappling on steep slopes weary feet trudging Rung after rung are slippery we most often fall More than the zenith it's the nadir we face yet stand fearless and tall With grit and aim we dare the highs and lows Life doesn't come in pretty packages tied with satin bows Rugged roads ahead are daunting Rumbustious I can no longer be, time is ravaging  Plethora of awards I seek Pinnacle of success I must reach Painstaking schedules all week Practice visualisation, they preach Lollygagging is put on hold Lugubrious are days leading to June Labouring hard to strike gold Laurels await, then I'll dance to my tune. The odds and ends I must brave These are life lessons from cradle to grave Pic Courtesy: Pixabay  ©️ Sangeetha Kamath
