OF THE SKIES AND OCEANS

OF THE SKIES AND OCEANS Some princesses are locked up high in the castle towers and I'm in a lockdown in my towering building. If the princes were led to Disney princesses for the dulcet songs they sang, I only had a hoarse voice hearing which, even the frog prince would make a hurried exit. A dreadful disease had overtaken the world and people stayed away from each other. Who would come to rescue me, and why would he? My heart did a double take as I saw a smiling tall, dark, handsome man in an unusual attire outside my window. I was on the 22nd floor! Was he a ghost? I was about to black out when he quickly said, "Sangeetha, fear not! Don't you know me? I'm Aladdin. Come, hop on! We have no time to lose!" Hop on?? Where??  I gingerly opened my window and there he was on his flying carpet. He took my hand and before I knew it, we were flying through the night sky, high above the skyscrapers and twinkling lights below. I...

CHEERY BAKERY

CHEERY BAKERY "It's all a bad dream...this can't be happening! Please tell me you're joking, Mr. Webber?..."  Susie looked at him expectantly. Mr. Webber seemed helpless as he compassionately said, "I'm truly sorry. I wish I could tell you that…" Susie looked around at her cubicle where she had spent eight years giving it her all for her work. Long hours, working into the night and doing more than required because she was a perfectionist.  One would think she was indispensable and secure in the employee roster. What a blow it was to the entire staff and a punch in the gut for Susie when her name was in the list of lay-offs!   Businesses were closing. The economy was crashing. *** Come autumn and Susie was still unemployed despite her spotless credentials and references given. Bills and rent kept piling up. Her savings wouldn't last for long if this kept going. She would have to find a ...

OCTOBER ECHOES

OCTOBER ECHOES Happy moments are frozen Imperially golden And unforgotten they remain As fragile as a daisy chain Guitar strumming under autumn skies Bonfire evenings with warm pumpkin pies The October wind whispers her bronzed song It's your sweet nothings I yearn for and long I miss your warm embrace; you made things better I wish I could hug you longer and tighter... I've set a table for two… You're gone, but I still miss you! Slivers of preserved sentiments Become towering monuments Can these moments materialize When we meet again in paradise?

SAN AND THE SNOW BIRD

In  an icy hamlet with a wintry fairy tale, lived a snow-bird who sang sweeter than a Nightingale.  She warbled at daybreak to a girl who always had a song on her lips and wore rainbow tiaras for hair clips.  "Who were you, once so happy and bright? Did the dark side of the moon steal your sunlight?" "I'm San, Neptune's beloved child Who naively glided through wonderland mild With a flawed cast-iron heart shield, merrily wild." "Snow-bird cooed,"What did transpire, dear? Are you in some icky quagmire?" "My life's a cryptic screenplay I'm a dilapidated puzzle, jigsaw pieces all in disarray. 'Twas supposed to be my wedding day. He never did show up on time, When the bells at 8.30 did chime." To the snow-bird, it was easy to discern, That a chirpy girl had become forlorn. Someone had ruthlessly impaled San's chambray heart, with an arrow of iron. "With stardust in my eyes, clutching at moonbeams, 'twas my dream ...

PAPER BOATS

The vintage albums I flip through Takes me back to halcyon days On grandmother's lap I would laze Under pristine skies azure blue She stoked amber fire for cooking porridge,  Lovingly fed me, narrating stories all the while In her sun-drenched garden, myriad blooms we gathered Weaving wreaths and posies, playing fairies and queens Monsoons saw our paper boats sail away into the unknown "Send me a paper boat after I'm gone, I will reply", she'd once jokingly said. Dark clouds shrouded the golden rays Doom would descend I had no clue Blow unkind was fated, who knew! We hobbled through thick fog and haze Conned and deceived by her trusting kin  Gardens, home dishonestly proved no longer hers. Ruthlessly razed, dreams blurred, one against the world Pined away treachery to severe wither and heartbreak extreme Heavens embraced her inside their gates divine Haunting echoes left behind; when our souls sang and laughed together Even today, I set my paper boats sail in the ...

DAY AND KNIGHT

Prologue She was always awake on crescent moon nights to catch a glimpse of the smile in the skies.  She loved to garden in the summer on full moon nights--- weeding and trimming the Wisteria vines and harvesting Angel's Trumpets from her backyard garden. "How doth the moon shine tonight Silver splendour in the twilight Distant pearl, so big and bright  Your moonbeams coruscate right Through the castle towers Courtyards and halls, They fall with equal grandeur  Even on the humble cottage walls High above, glowing halo Magnetic night mellow And here I stand,  Here I wait For your benign crescent smile Because of you I now gaze up  At the cresting chrome and sing The lullaby of the moon." CHAPTER 1 Day lounged on the seat fitted into the bay window. She was facing skywards, besotted by it and it returned the gaze, equally enamoured by her. A myriad of poetry and legions of lyrics have been woven around it. Multifarious songs have been sung about it. In every langu...
