YARNS OF GLOOMSPROUT TRAIL ( DAY 12, LETTER Y)

                      CHAPTER 11

    YARN OF THE GLOOMSPROUT DALE

The mid morning sun streamed into the cozy cottage, casting a warm glow over the assembly. Goldwynn, with a deft touch, stirred the bubbling cauldron of honey oat mush for the darling critters who had been looking forward to this since forever.

Dapper, Chipper, and Hopper sat at the table with anticipation.Their eyes were fixed upon the repast being prepared for their pleasure.

"Goldwynn, what's the plan ? Where could the Bears be ?" Hopper furrowed his brow, worry writ large on his face.

Goldwynn, with a gentle smile, poured the steaming Chamomile tea into delicate china cups, the aroma of the herb mingling with the scent of the steeped apple slices in it.

"We'll figure out a way soon, squad," she said, her voice as soothing as the gentle lullaby of the forest. “Meanwhile, toss your fretting onto the wind and have a hearty meal."

Chipper's ears perked up, his eyes shining. "Shadow's gonna guard it, right?" he asked, his voice trembling.

Dapper's nose twitched, and he sniffed the air, his eyes closing in rapture. "Mmm, it smells like magic, Goldwynn! This Apple Tea is something else! " he exclaimed, his voice full of wonder.

Goldwynn smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners, as she handed out the bowls of honey oat mush drizzled with the berries and lavender. "Papa Koala said the shadow's tricky, but we've got teamwork," she said, her voice full of quiet confidence. "And with our combined wit and bravery, we'll unravel the mystery of the Locke Jewel."

“So, Goldwynn, Papa Koala told me the treacherous Gloomsprout Dale trail's the path to Xaringmere Cragg Rise. He says it's twisted and narrow, like a rabbit's burrow gone wrong. Trees are so tall they block out the sun, and the ground's all uneven with roots and stones. Says it's full of strange noises, too - like whispers and creaks that'll make ya jump. And wildflowers grow there, like they're mocking you with their prettiness. Papa Koala says only the bravest rabbits make it through without getting lost or worse. Think he's just trying to scare us, eh?

Papa Koala says the trail's got a mind of its own, like it's trying to confuse folks on purpose. He heard tales of shadows moving when you're not looking, and the path changing shape like a puzzle.

Some say if you listen real quiet, you can hear the whispers of old critter folk who got lost in there forever. And don't even get him started on the wildflowers – says they're like breadcrumbs, leading you deeper in but not out again! Think he's pulling our whiskers?”

Hopper's eyes narrowed, his brow furrowed in thought. "What if it's a trap?" he asked, his voice laced with a hint of concern.

"Trap or not, we'll figure it out, dear Hopper. But first, we seek the Bears," Goldwynn said, setting out the Rhubarb tarts on a saucer, the golden pastries with ruby red chunks gleaming in the morning light. "Eat up, dear friends, and may the food nourish our spirits for the adventure ahead."

The gang fell to, their conversation flowing like a gentle brook, as they discussed the Locke Jewel and their plans for the evening.

Chipper regaled them with tales of his previous adventures, his words painting vivid pictures in the imagination. Dapper's eyes shone with mirth, as he devoured his Raisin cookies, his laughter bubbling up like a spring. Hopper listened to Goldwynn's words of strategy and caution. And Goldwynn smiled upon them all, her heart full of hope and determination.

As they finished their repast, the sun had risen high in the sky, casting a warm glow over the forest.

BOKETTO

In my quiet moments, I pause the world from its frantic pace. In that stillness, I wistfully gaze into the distance and just let things unfurl as they please. I let my thoughts flow, absorbing nothing. Internalizing nothing. And just like that, the strands of tightly woven twine untangle and the knots come loose. Today, as usual, I found myself caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily grind. I was rushing to get things done, stressing about deadlines, and feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of tasks on my to-do list. But then, I took a deliberate pause. With a deep breath, I stretched, stepped away from my desk, and walked out onto my balcony. Leaning on the railing, I looked down at the familiar lanes of my neighborhood, twirling around the corners behind the blocks of apartments.  The park and playground stood deserted at noon amid the cluster of flowering trees and surrounded by the hedges lining the curbs. I gazed at the sky, feeling the warm sun on my face and ...

ANAM CARA

The waves are soft and frothy. Laced with gossamer frills tenderly kissing the tips of my toes covered with the grainy sand of the rugged seashore where I'm sitting, wistful. A gust of briny breeze tousles my hair as I gaze as far as my eyes can see.  A flock of terns wheel overhead, their sharp, shrill cries punctuating the air as they dive and swoop over the surfs. A lone frigate bird , its crimson belly dazzling like a jewel skims majestically above, its long, slender wings outstretched as it rides the thermals high above the ocean. I absorb the sights and sounds of the late afternoon while absentmindedly scooping seashells beside me. As the afternoon phases, the furthest rim of the ocean is fringed in a gilded hem and the sleepy sun yawns, its dipping glow streaking the sky in a mellow tangerine and warm cherry. As I continue sitting there, the ships and yachts appear --specks of light from the portholes glimmering in the distance, reminding me of the phrase “That ship has sai...

CHẠ̀WKHRĀW (Chxw̒kh rxw̒)

As usual, at the dot of 8 pm, the Guzheng plays its stirring chords, the haunting notes beginning a slow sweep, rising to a powerful crescendo and alternating with a tranquil ebbing of melody surfing me along the waves of soul-stirring, yet a serene stretch of an hour every day.  I make it a point to sit right beside my dining room window to bask in this lulling sound therapy as my neighbor downstairs diligently plays on this zither, oblivious to my admiration. What a luxury it is to have a live orchestra while I savour the last meal of the day. It's a welcome distraction to the otherwise jarring squabbling of the playful neighbourhood children.  The Chạ̀wkhrāw of this– that the musical household might move one day is a foreboding thought. Foreshadowing this, deeply ingrained in me is the shattering news I had received upon returning to Singapore after an 8 month absence here.  The Ramadan festive season was fast approaching at the end of March but the apar...

Moxie N' Mettle

MOXIE N' METTLE  In slivers and fragments as my sleep tiptoes, did I do right or wrong my heart needles… Some skies are born of black holes and tempest wreck,  There glitters not a ray of light, nor a speck When curtains turbid hold all light hostage,  Sandstorms, hailstorms, dust storms, snowstorms, windstorms assail and ravage Spanning my wings as a raging fire  Or as a mellow glow of a fairy light in the distant darkness, quite debonaire I'll ignite my spark from within like a star born into itself spurting lava Or explode leaving trails of cosmic dust like a Supernova I will be the Sun creating galaxies and many a constellation.  Or burn like a single flame of the candle to keep my hopes and dreams alive with determination! I will be at my own pace I will be whoever and whatever I want to be—in my own race Collapse, crash and crumble! But I'll...

ARIEL AND BLUE-BLOOD SHOES

The waves crashed violently against the craggy mountainside and the moonlight shone on the lacy froths. As I waded through the water and stepped on the wet sand, I remembered another night which was many moons ago. The same glinting lights through the palace doorways and windows, the fireworks adorning the night sky like shooting stars and meteors. A royal celebration with all the works and the guests dressed up in their best finery and aristocratic jewelry. Of noble births they all were. Blue blooded as the matriarch had pointedly told me once.  That unholy night! That night of icy hearts and howling laughter, the echoes of cackling that followed me till I ran on wobbly legs to find my place of comfort where the land met water… Hot tears streaming down, I regretted those days when I lost my heart to a man so spineless. Had I not dragged him to the shore, he would have been a mangled mass after being torn apart by the piranhas and other monstrous maws.  How I regret…Oh!...
