GOLDILOCKS AND THE BEARS

Goldilocks walked briskly in the sun-caked alley of the little known hamlet of an indigenous tribe in Arizona. Her footsteps spoke of authority and urgency. A team of armed men followed close behind her.

The village folk had gathered a distance away from the Bears’ house. They parted to make way and shuffled anxiously, clenching their palms…almost pleading with the team to get them out of this ordeal.

"How many people are inside?", Goldilocks' demeanor was calm but her mind was racing.

"Madam, there's a family of three. The Bears. Parents and a child of five. A stranger with a menacing look is holding them hostage. Never seen him in these parts."

"Okay, let me handle this", Goldilocks reassured them.

She rapped on the intricately designed door. Baby Bear let out a loud cry at this sudden intrusion of noise in an environment which was already volatile.

Mr.and Mrs. Bear hurriedly shushed their child, their worst fears gripping them. Baby Bear was in anguish trying desperately to quieten but heavy sobs came out in rasps and whimpers.

Goldilocks didn't waste a moment. "Officer Goldilocks here! I heard you have some demands. I'm here to make the deal. Are you listening? "

Footsteps shuffled inside and inched closer. "There's no bargaining. Get me what I want or else I'm going to horrendously execute these people one by one without any mercy."

Outside, everyone's blood ran cold and there was a chaos of voices. "You can't let this happen, Madam…Give them what they want."

The captor’s voice rang out in a smirk, "These illiterates are wiser than you, Goldilocks ! Listen to them."

Goldilocks signalled to her team. It did look like there was only one person holding hostage. It wouldn't take long to disarm him. They had handled many operations like these successfully. The only catch was that they didn't know what weaponry or ammunition he possessed.

Goldilocks took a chance. " You're bluffing! Execute, you say? How? Do you have the guts to do that? Are you going to blow them up or shoot them down? "

"I will blow them up…or shoot them down whatever takes my fancy!” A maniacal laughter chilled everyone to the bone.”No more talking. I have laid down my demands and off you go to get it right away.”

A vile shot rang out with the sound of glass breaking and wood splintering.

The village folk were in total shambles. The torment on the Bear family was harrowing. Mrs. Bear pleaded with the captor and in return received a cracking slap across her face giving her a swollen cheek and blood oozing fast from a deep, ugly bruise.

Mr. Bear helpless and on the edge decided it was wise to lay low and give in rather than further spark the captor's rage. He signaled to his wife reassuring her, even though he had lost hopes to come out of this alive.

Goldilocks knew she had to act swiftly. The snipers were already on the terrace of the opposite house. She had to bring this villain in their line of vision. With a quick sign, she pointed to the window and threw a large pebble at the grill. Startled at this, and logic fleeing him that it could be a ploy, the captor rushed to the source of the sound.

Taking aim expertly, it was a split second when the snipers had a view of him through the window.

Even as he realized that he was tricked, a single shot blew his brains out!

The Bears rushed out of the house into the arms of their tribe, safe and alive although hysterical and drained. They thanked Goldilocks profusely, showering her with praises and bowing down to her as was their custom of reverence.

That night, a feast was held in her honor and on the table was a spread of soups, fruits, homemade breads and…bowls of fragrant porridge which was…just right!

  1. Oh, quite a dark tale but fast-paced and tense. I could visualize the scenes clearly. Great job. :)

  2. Well! That was not at all what I expected, but a lot of fun. Well...as fun as a hostage situation can be I guess.

GOLDILOCKS: THE LOCKE MANSION

This is a reimagined version of the popular fairy tale ' Goldilocks and the Three Bears.' This retelling is a part of the Write A Page A Day event on Blogchatter starting Feb 1 thru 28th to reach a total word count of 10K by the month end.                              CHAPTER 1                    LOCKE HAVEN ESTATE  The sky bled bruises of plum and cherry over the rolling hills. A full moon hung low against the mauve, casting silver shards through the skeletal trees. The mansion made of cold greystone loomed large beyond the rusted iron gates. It grated on the gravel, rasped on the hinges and yawned open like a predator's jaw as Goldwynn booted it open with her foot. Her sneakers squished heavily on the mulch of dead leaves. Clutching her backpack, she looked up at the towering, grim structure forebodingly.  "Are you sure you want to do this, Go...

GOLDILOCKS: THE BEWITCHED WOODS

This story is a reimagined version of the popular fairy tale 'Goldilocks And The Three Bears' and is a part of the event Write A Page A Day on Blogchatter for the month of February.                              CHAPTER 2  The trees pierced the sky like steeples, their gossamer branches blurred out high against the dusk. The luminescent creepers that entwined them pulsed like embers of bonfire in the dwindling light.  Mists thick with musk and sun-bleached pine, swirled around their trunks and veiled the forest floor in pillowy waves. The earthy smell of decaying leaves and damp moss made Goldwynn’s senses reel.  Disheveled, she scrambled to her feet, her heart racing like the devil.  The Locke mansion was nowhere to be seen – The cavern had spat her out like a bitter aftertaste. Her ears strained to hear some sign of life.  “ Where am I .. and where in the blimey is Locke Mansion...!" her...

OF DIFFERENT GALAXIES

  # Prompt4 A Shout-out and Appreciation post to someone who helped me as a creator.  The Universe doesn't at all work in mysterious ways. It works exactly as it was meant to roll out for me. The riptides of 2025 were all engulfing. But fighting a losing battle was never an option. I had to surface tearing through it all. SM had taken a laid-back seat with me lounging in the tangible priorities I had to tackle in the 3D world.  Instagram had been a secondary preference even otherwise with FB taking the front row of all time whenever I was regular on social media. Insta was a tool--totally non existent for years to come except for a couple of times since creating it but in August I opened this long forgotten wardrobe and found some unexpected treasures in there. Here was a creator who delivered dynamically in her audience interaction. And sensibly with great clarity as well. A nonsense, a non-controversial and someone who didn't whine and howl in a perceived victim mode. J...

AI 'n' I (Part 2 to DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER)

Ok! So Babylou was so flustered after the hoodie fiasco when we arrived home, that for a couple of days she trailed behind her a chain reaction of an awfully mentally drained me–upon seeing her tireless emotional highs and lows, day in and day out. Clutching at the last straws of my already depleting sanity with the incessant grousing, I told her that I would ask AI to do a tarot card reading for the hoodie and its unfortunate pilfer ( to humor her, to close and seal this annoying chapter for good!) My ability to reason with her had explored all avenues and had horribly crashed to a naught. However, AI did a fab job ! It told me that the petty thief would soon get her karma !  How ? Pat came the 'bot'ic response. She will trip and fall face down in a puddle of muddy water... Harmless. Not a tit for tat but was enough to make me go into fits of uncontrollable laughter.  My next obvious question--- How will I know when that happens? I won't  be around to watch that ...
