BALLAD OF GAIA

This is a poetry of 16 lines and 180 words without the alphabet 'E' in any word. On an unfamiliar turf in a hot air balloon  I was sailing through a cyan sky chasing a faint moon  Oh look! Swans of ivory-gray, hoards of mallards and flocks of swallows happily migrating ! A madrigal strain from an ocarina of a wood nymph is so poignant and haunting  Honking and cackling, a farrago of cacophony Sounds of fauna in an utopian harmony… Crisp air floats down from mountains and hillocks   Fragrant whiffs from jacarandas and magnolias rising amid a patch of shamrocks A gust of wind jolts my hot air balloon a notch sky-high From land and country so far away…sigh!  Glinting with sun rays, bubbling brooks twin with a sinuous cord strung with cabochon  Rippling and gushing in woods and in plains, a braiding vista of blooms orchids and lilacs is a paragon Rocky crowns of snowy mountains loom gargantuan and tall Against an apricot awning, a dusking sun throws long...

AUGURY

This is a short story of 200 words without using the alphabet 'E' in any word : A wild wolf was baying again. Doomsday was not far away. Today, an angry God would throw a bolt of lightning and drown our world in a tumultuous flood.  But for our sins and brutal violations, mankind was stuck with this mishap.  A crowd of townsfolk stood around an altar, waiting for that final blow. A mass of livid clouds hung low. Brilliant zips of lightning struck rocky grounds missing us culprits by a hair.  I, a king, was at a loss for words. I could do nothing to stop bairns from bawling or my clan and stock from howling. My royalty was in vain. My crown could not bail out my kingdom. But wait! A wizard was in his profound crystal gazing. A solution was at hand, out of this augury—I had to abandon my mortal body! Cacophonous baying was now a roar, lusting for my blood, to put a stop to this fury. Drawing out my yataghan gallantly, I swung a sharp, distinct nick across my jugular! As I d...

SANGUINE (DAY 5)

Red is a meadow of poppy flowers Poinsettias emblazon the Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas decors Red is a fiery autumn and trays laden with caramel apples I have a shade of red for every mood My affection is of a rank of vibrant corals My rage and courage burn a deep crimson Red is a wedding carnation blossom My passion is a luminous scarlet My celebrations are a radiant merlot  My silence is a steeping burgundy My euphoria is a gleaming sangria tempered with tangy cherry candy Red is my pretty black dress,  I wear the blazing vermilion with class Wild fragrance spills from jacarandas and crepe myrtles  On languorous zephyrs waft scents of berries and rose apples I own the flaming carmines with style The dawning cerise sky shines down on my every furrow and smile I present the auburns with confidence Red is regal sophistication, Red is a timeless princely elegance. ©️ Sangeetha Kamath Image by Adina Voicu from Pixabay

JAMBOREE (DAY 5)

Set in the cerulean of the summer sky  The sun glowed like an urn of gold and honey pie Shadows of bright citrine clouds rollicked over the moors and greening plains Dewdrops brimmeth over lily cups like an elven rain On the wings of dawn and on the feathers of dusk Flutters an incense of sandalwood and heady musk Gossamer veils of mist tassel the glade and dell Mounds of emerald knolls are crowns bejeweled with bluebells The turf and trees burgeon with an earth song The boughs are spangled with Sakuras and the lakes with regal swans Opulent are meadows with wildflower gloves The breeze hum-strums through pine woods and dances in the groves There's a triumph on every pasture and and every charming glen Gilded are carpets of lavender heaths in amaranthine drenched The hymns in the woods and the chants in the dales Nature is a jamboree where every robin is felicitated and a wren regaled. ©️ Sangeetha Kamath  Pic Courtesy :Image by Anime Nex from Pixabay

LILIES OF GRANBURGH (DAY 4)

It was that time of the year and preparations were in full swing. School holidays were declared for three full days as the fair was coming to town. There would be food stalls of warm buns, ice-cream, treacle puddings, cupcakes and a host of quenchers like fruit punches and ginger ale. The children as well as the adults were mighty pleased with the new mayor who had organized this event and made this into a mini festival. The new mayor of Granburgh, Mr. Fernsby had a ruddy complexion with pleasant manners to match. He was instantly popular with the townsfolk as he mingled with everyone and made small talk. His sprawling two-storey mansion had an aisle of Calla Lilies bordering the lawn and was flanked on the side by a crystal clear pond. The house had just got a fresh coat of paint before the family moved in and hordes of furniture and luggage were being hauled in by the movers.  The town was bustling with people in anticipation for the 3-day fair and a vast ground had been rigged u...

LUCKY STAR (DAY 3)

I sailed tempestuous seven seas and battled gusting typhoons Stargazing on moonless nights and daydreaming on blazing afternoons  I traversed the painted skies and a million miles Just to see you with your signature dazzling smile It's in the grace of your sway as you pirouette to your favourite music In the lilt of your voice as you trill songs fantastic! With lovelorn eyes you await my arrival They speak a million things to me like a jukebox at a carnival The cocoon of your embrace and your  glance Sends electric waves, I with abandon prance! It's in the cookies that you bake, my early morning smoothie and berry shake... In the little notes that you write and dainty  trinkets you make When you surprise and amaze me without a reason You're the only one I go to, in every season! Every nook and cranny holds memories of your smiling sprinkle I raise a fine toast to you as champagne glasses tinkle You cherish me with fervour, Your smile is dreamy when you remember my favouri...

Huh?! What is Mama Yani up to? She's tottering on a step ladder and fumbling with a large suitcase! Carrreee….ful, Mama! There! Phew! She's safe and sound…and so is the suitcase! What a large fella he is! Meow? Are we going on a holiday? Don't tell me we're relocating again…I'm going to howl so miserably that they won't let us step into an aircraft again, I'm telling you! Meow! Meowwww!! Heck! I'm being ignored again! But Mama Yani’s face has lighted up like a million bulbs as she's talking nineteen to the dozen on the phone in the midst of her packing.  Waaaaiitt a meowing minute! Why isn't she packing my things in the same suitcase? She has crammed my blankie, my bowl and my favourite plushie in a tote bag??? Me, a descendant of the cats of the royal lineage of Egypt treated like a peasant! What has the world come to?  Finally! The conversation has ended and I'm being stashed into my carrier. We're leaving right away? What the meow! A...
