When it came with overblown fanfare, packaged in satins,
Tied with laces, ribbons, diamantes and sequins,
You had me stunned...You were the one!
Romance was a word---new, all others it hands-down outshone!
The stars were made of diamond, the moon, of gold
In all naivete, I believed all the pretty little lies
You unflinchingly told..
My heart is a slab of crystalline ice
Inside a thorny cage cowering from foolery and malice
Romance had a bitter price to pay---
Maroons, scarlets of the roses burnt to ashes drab gray!
It creeps in with the brush with a bramble bush
Ripping dreams apart with the evanescence of heart's first gush.
Romance lives on as poetry in the air
Bleeding profusely, endlessly with a morbid flair…
As a melancholic tune of a song once smitten…
One man's banquet is to another---
A holy penance or a regret rotten!
