SASS IN THE CITY
The masks that she wears, her face that emotes like a marionette were desperate measures to fit into a world which doles out cookie-cutter shapes and commands her to conduct herself. She's always on a tight leash.
When she led from the front, they called her domineering. When she zipped her lips, they called her a snob!
When she laughed, she was labelled raucous, when she spoke her mind, they called her violent. Strong words, yes? Violent?…Huh!
When she was aloof, they walked all over her, when she rose to the fore and showed them their place, they said she had 'flaw in character' or a 'lack of it!' Strong words again or maybe they 'lack knowledge of the English vocabulary'!
She lived in a world where cliques, clouts and nepotism were rife. If you didn't fit in or fit in right, consider yourself as thrown to the wolves as black as the night.
Keyboard cowards don't intimidate her. People-pleaser she wasn't and that's what got their goat.
When she didn't bite the dust, they wondered and put their heads together. Their efforts drew a naught and she soared higher and higher. The tears that streamed down her face and smudged her eyeliner, is now deliberately painted in this fashion to give her eyes a femme fatale smokiness.
She smirks in her mind when she sees them, but hides it well with a cordial smile. What they didn't know was that their reality was revealed to her long before they even knew.
These two-faced people that she still bumps into, amuse her. Are they in fact the ones with 'flaw in character' or 'lack of it'?? Oh, she very well means to say 'character' and not any other word because people like them who indulge in slander need no further introduction!
