SITTING DUCK
Love came fluttering by on a cold day wintery
Riding on diaphonous wings of a dragonfly wispy
The charms he exuded floored me
The attention he showered swept me enormously
I looked in the mirror and couldn't imagine
What a dashing man like him saw in a mangy duckling like me without any sheen
The swans in my river wondered too
Warned me that he's out to make a fool out of you
Electric rage coursed through my veins
Lashing out furiously at them I said they were envious of me, I'm no bird-brain!
He's my prince and I will rule one day beside him as a queen
Their smirks and hoots reverberated in the air
Humiliation was rife, I lunged at them and a feather or two viciously tear
There were quacks and squawkes, shrill ear-splitting howls like canine packs
Left alone, isolated and in gloom
Scavenger bore down on me I wasn't to know my day would soon end in doom!
Like a demon incarnate from brimstone and hellfire
He showed me his true colours of icky swamps and quicksand mire
"Come along, you don't need anyone but me
Let's live together happily ever after you and me"
Violins and guitars were the melody in my ears
How was I to know I'd be a fool begging for my love, reduced to tears…
Sepulchre was his devilish grin
When he oh so magnanimously invited me in
Dinner will be ready in hour he told his wife dear
Prepare the marinade for roast duck until then I'll pluck and rip her off, feather by feather!
